US markets ebbed and flowed again overnight, with tech stocks bouncing back, following the previous day’s losses. This was balanced by a fall in the Dow, which had booked gains in the previous day’s trading. European markets were lower, with some bad reviews lower for Airbus. Spanish GDP growth was solid, coming in at an annualised 2.5%, better than expected. Canadian inflation spiked higher, jumping to 2.9%, dampening hopes of any near-term rate cuts. The S&P Case Shiller Home Price Index jumped to an annualised 7.2%, reflecting the supply side problems, as the leading housing sector remains under pressure. The EUR jumped higher, trading above 1.0700, while the GBP struggles to regain 1.2700.
Commodity currencies were settled, with the AUD trading just below 0.6650, while the NZD looks to hold 0.6100. Markets are looking ahead to the important PCE inflation indicator, out in the US, later in the week.
